The Long Beach High School surf team came home happy earlier this week from National Scholastic Surfing Association Northeast High School Championships.

Competing against 16 New Jersey teams on Sunday, Long Beach’s “A Team” placed 6th out of 17 at the competition and its “B Team” placed 11th, said coach Daniel Bobis.

This was Long Beach’s first year as an official school team, and it is the only high school surf team in all of New York State.

The championships mark the end of the team’s season until the spring, when Bobis hopes to hold another competition at Long Beach.
