Long Island Cares - The Harry Chapin Food Bank has launched a pet food drive through the region's state legislators.
The 3rd annual Legislative Food Drive is an initiative Long Island Cares started in 2012 to restock the warehouse shelves during the winter and spring, when it said donations are typically scarce.
The food bank said it has delivered nearly 900,000 pounds of pet donations through its Baxter's Pet Pantry program since it launched in 2009.
Residents interested in participating in the pet food drive can donate 5- or 10-pound bags of dog and cat food, canned pet food and kitty litter at participating legislator's offices. Call your local legislator for more information on when they're collecting donations.
Residents can also call 631-582-FOOD or visit licares.org to donate or find out more about the organization's services.
