LIRR CONTRACT TALKS BREAK OFF
Heated contract talks between the MTA and Long Island Rail Road labor leaders broke off in less than two hours early Friday with no deal in place and union officials saying a July 20 strike is more likely than ever, Newsday's Alfonso Castillo reports.
PEDESTRIAN HIT BY VEHICLE
A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle early Friday on Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square, Nassau County police said. A police spokesman had few details but said the pedestrian appeared to be at a bus stop between Franklin Avenue and Scherer Boulevard when struck shortly before 8 a.m. The pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital, but the spokesman did not have any details on injuries.
