Making a happy home for disabled child

Volunteers are making sure a disabled child gets a comfortable place to live.

Friends and volunteers are working to give a motherless boy with cerebral palsy a new place to call home.

Jared Behr, 6, has lived with his grandparents, John and June Behr, in Riverhead since Jared's mother, Heidi, a paramedic, died in the line of duty in 2005.

But his grandparents' 800-square-foot Riverhead home is not handicapped accessible, so friends and community members are renovating June Behr's family home in Cutchogue, according to local news website RiverheadLocal.com.

Jared and his grandparents should be moving into their new home sometime after the holidays.
