A left-turn signal will soon be installed at a high-traffic intersection in Plainview to help prevent accidents and injuries, said Nassau County Legis. Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury).
“It will certainly make it a safer intersection to deal with,” she said Thursday.
The county public works department will place the signal on Manetto Hill Road north of its intersection with Washington Avenue — for southbound traffic turning east — as soon as possible, Jacobs said.
The department is designing the signal, she said.
The area around the intersection — which Jacobs pointed out includes Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School, H.B. Mattlin Middle School, a YMCA facility, a church, a temple and several residences — has been in vital need of a left-turn signal, she said.
“The concern of course is the children, the residents and the heavy usage that this area gets,” Jacobs said, adding she has fought for the signal for at least eight years. “I am sure it will prevent accidents.”
