A 2009 graduate of Smithtown East High School is to be welcomed home Friday at Long Island MacArthur Airport.

Marine Lance Cpl. Stephen D. Outcault is returning from an eight-month deployment in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, where he has been lead IED sweeper with the Third Battalion, Second Division’s Weapons Company.

Outcault was a star wrestler during his senior year of high school. He went on to study business management at Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island for a year before joining the Marines in 2010.

He will be met at MacArthur by Islip airport liaison Councilman Gene Parrington, family, friends and a growing number of community groups who now turn out to join MacArthur Airport’s Hometown Hero Welcome program.

Outcault is the son of St. James residents Kelley and Stephen Outcault, and has two teenage brothers, Luke and William, both wrestlers. Both of his grandfathers and a great uncle are veterans, airport spokeswoman Catherine Green said.

Outcault, due to arrive aboard US Airways Flight 4182 at 5:34 p.m., is scheduled to return to Afghanistan after his 20-day home leave.
