Mastic Beach began its official life as a village June 1.

To symbolize the transfer of power, Brookhaven Town Councilman Dan Panico handed over a prototype of a street sign to Paul Breschard, the mayor of the new village, during a ceremony at Neighborhood Road Square.

“Mastic Beach is my hometown and I am proud of the progress we have made in just over a year in office,” Panico said in a news release. “Through hard work and cooperation, I know that Mastic Beach will finally realize its true potential. To that end, I am fully committed to work to help in anyway that I can to make this a reality.”

Residents voted in August to incorporate the area as a village.

Panico encouraged the approximately 11,500 residents of Mastic Beach to contact his office at 631-451-6502 if they have questions about services provided by the town or the village.
