Mastic Beach votes on village status today

Mastic Beach residents will vote Tuesday on whether the 11,500-resident hamlet will become the ninth incorporated village in Brookhaven Town.

The election will be held from noon to 9 p.m. at the Mastic Beach Fire Department at 265 Neighborhood Rd. in Mastic Beach.

Councilman Panico also says turnout has been "steady all day." It's going to be a zoo in here from 5 to 8.


Brookhaven Supervisor Mark Lesko says #MasticBeach voter turnout "hasn't stopped, all day." It is packed now. 


Now it's more of a sign-holding, thumbs-upping, smiling demonstration. No electioneering here.


Brookhaven public safety guy says people have to stop chanting because the sound is crossing the buffer.


I'd say pro #MasticBeach village people outnumber anti- village people by a 3-2 [ratio]. No actual Village People yet. 


The #MasticBeach sign-wavers are a windful for Pizza Time, which is advertising $8.19 large pies.


Another group of kids is holding red "No Village" signs across the street. One has a Marshall Faulk jersey.


Sweet little boy now yelling "Taxes will not go higher" into bullhorn on street corner. #MasticBeach can exhale.
