The Town-Village Aircraft Safety Noise Abatement Committee plans to host a community meeting Monday to discuss concerns over low-flying planes and ways to control jet noise in communities near Kennedy Airport.

The meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Stewart Manor Country Club, 51 Salisbury Ave. Representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey have been invited.

The scheduled featured speaker is Henry A.F. Young, an aviation consultant from Young Environmental Sciences based in Manhasset, who is expected to discuss Federal Aviation Regulation, Part 150.

The regulations are voluntary and airport operators, such as the Port Authority, may participate in the airport noise compatibility planning program to seek a balance between their operational needs and noise impacts on surrounding neighborhoods.

Members of the 40-year-old coalition have called for equitable distribution of flights onto the airport’s eight runway approaches, a ban on low-flying planes and a reduction of late-night flights as a way to reduce aircraft noise.

Communities participating in the committee include Atlantic Beach, Cedarhurst, East Williston, Floral Park, Garden City, Hewlett Harbor, Inwood, Lawrence, Long Beach, Malverne, New Hyde Park, Stewart Manor, Valley Stream and Woodsburgh.

FAA officials have said runway usage is determined by many factors, including wind direction, weather conditions, construction projects and noise abatement procedures.
