Fred Melamed, left, and Sari Lennick are shown in a scene from, "A Serious Man."
Veteran actor and Montauk resident Fred Melamed says he is in talks for a part in “Inferno,” a film about “Deep Throat” porn star Linda Lovelace. The movie stars Lindsay Lohan, who grew up on Long Island.
Melamed most recently played villain Sy Abelman in “A Serious Man,” a 2009 Oscar nominee for best picture. The part is of “Deep Throat” director Gerard Damiano. Damiano died in 2008.
Melamed says rather than delving into graphic pornography, “Inferno” is “a serious movie of significant merit.”
"It's a twisted love story about her and her husband, Chuck Traynor, set against sexual utopianism in the '70s. It's a harrowing film in a lot of ways, but it's not designed to titillate."
He added: "Unfortunately, the way Lindsay Lohan is perceived, there’s a skewed view of the movie,” which is set to begin shooting in September.
On Monday, Lohan was mandated to wear an alcohol-monitoring bracelet after she didn’t show up for a hearing May 20 in Los Angeles stemming from her 2007 DUI case.
Likening Lohan to Robert Downey Jr., a talented actor who has had his share of trouble with the law, Melamed said, “The public likes to redeem someone who has fallen. I hope that does this for her.”
