MetroPCS applies to build cell tower in Huntington Station

Tops on agenda tonight for the Town of Huntington Zoning Board of Appeals: MetroPCS is applying for a special permit to erect a 100-foot cell tower and a 250-square-foot equipment compound at the north side of West 11th Street where it meets 10th Avenue in Huntington Station.

Denise Mumm, zoning board clerk, said the proposed tower and equipment compound are of standard height and size, and the proposed location is industrially zoned. She said there aren't any letters of opposition or support on file yet at the clerk's office, though residents could still voice their opinions at the hearing.

"Sometimes they just come out of the woodwork," she said.

The board has eight public hearings on its agenda.
