Long Island Cares-The Harry Chapin Food Bank received a $5,000 donation Wednesday in support of its Military Appreciation Tuesdays.
Bob Jesberger and the staff of Mid Island Collision, an automotive repair company in Rockville Centre, made the donation Wednesday at its office at 20 Lakeview Ave. The donation will help the food bank and hunger assistance organization provide food to veterans who are in need, organization officials said.
“There are thousands of people starving on Long Island, including a lot of men and women who served this country,” Jesberger said in a statement. “That’s completely unacceptable. We need other businesses to step up and help put an end to hunger on Long Island.”
Long Island Cares is using the donation to purchase 14 types of food for Beacon House, based in Bay Shore, one of its member organizations that provides services to veterans. The items requested by the veterans at Beacon House include hot and cold cereal, shelf-stable milk, whole chickens, canned tuna, eggs, butter, cheese, bagels and muffins and various condiments.
