June has a load of fairs, festivals, golf outings, walks and runs in the Moriches area, so get ready, get set and go!

First on tap is the 10th annual Center Moriches Relay for Life, being held this Saturday, from noon to midnight, at the Center Moriches Varsity High School Soccer Field. Highlights include the Survivors and Caregiver Lap, the first-ever Ms. Relay Contest, official results of the Rely Idol Contest, a Chinese Auction until 7 p.m., and a Luminaria Ceremony. Live music will be played throughout the day, and food will be sold, made possible by members of the Center Moriches Booster Club.

Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult 25 years or older. For more information, e-mail mam121@optonline.net.

Strawberry Shortcake Festival: What better way to kick off local strawberry season than with the Annual Strawberry Shortcake Festival, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Center Moriches Fire Department. The festival is sponsored by Company 1, and for less than $10, visitors can expect a generous portion of the homemade treat featuring cakes baked at local bakeries, cream hand-whipped by fire department members and some of the best strawberries this side of the Hudson River! Raffle tickets and T-shirts will be available for purchase. For more information, call 631-878-0089.

Annual spring fair: The Chamber of Commerce of the Moriches won’t let a little roadwork get in the way of hosting its annual Spring Fair and Festival, so, while beautification efforts continue along Main Street, this year’s fair, slated for June 11 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., has been moved to the grassy field adjacent to Camp-Pa-Qua-Tuck on Montauk Highway in Center Moriches. The fair will feature various vendors and merchants, food, music and children’s activities, including a petting zoo. For more information, contact Chamber board member Gerry Sapanaro at 631-878-0003. The rain date is June 12.

Golf outing: Tickets and sponsorship opportunities are still available for the Eastport South Manor Sports Association’s 5th Annual Golf Outing on June 17 at Calverton Links, 149 Edwards Ave., Calverton. Festivities will include a barbecue lunch buffet, food, beverages and raw bar on the course; a cocktail hour, dinner, dessert, prizes, raffles and awards. Sponsorships range from $50 for a cart sponsor to $300 for a dinner sponsor. The individual golf fee is $150. Proceeds will benefit the Eastport South Manor Sports Association, a nonprofit youth organization that provides athletic programs – including baseball, softball, lacrosse and cheerleading – to children ages 5 to 15. For more information, call Ian Kessler at 631-965-6546.

5k run/walk: The 10th Annual 5k Walk/Run to benefit the Moriches Community Center will be held June 18. Early-bird registration through June 17 is $20 fee for runners. Registration on the event day is $25; walker’s fee is $10. Check-in is 7:15 to 8:30 a.m. at Neville Park, located on Canal Street in Center Moriches. A Kids Fun Run is planned for 8:15 a.m., with the official race kicking off at 9 a.m. For more information and to register online, visit morichescommunitycenter.org.
