Mosquito control forums scheduled

Nassau County Health Department Commissioner Dr. Lawrence Eisenstein, County Executive Edward Mangano and Legis. Dave Denenberg (D-Merrick) will present two forums to discuss the West Nile virus, mosquito control, appropriate health and safety measures to take, and other health concerns.

One forum will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Freeport Memorial Library, 144 W. Merrick Rd. The other forum will be held Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the Wantagh Public Library, 3285 Park Ave.

Nassau County Department of Public Works is responsible for mosquito control in the county, including monitoring and treating street basins, sumps, ponds and freshwater streams with larvicides. To report a mosquito or stagnant water problems, call the public works department’s Mosquito Control Unit at 516-571-6900.

Nassau County Department of Health conducts mosquito and West Nile virus surveillance activities at 42 trap sites throughout the county. For information concerning West Nile virus activity, call the health department’s Mosquito Surveillance Program at 516-572-1211.
