North Amityville will be the site of a back-to-school event Saturday featuring a basketball clinic and free school supplies.
"Back to School Fest," scheduled from 1 to 7 p.m. at Bolden Mack Park, is sponsored by local churches and the Shelton Jones Foundation, a nonprofit started by former NBA player Shelton Jones, a graduate of Amityville High School.
The free event will include a basketball clinic at 1 p.m. for boys and girls ages 10 to 18, which will focus on drills and fundamentals. Registration for the clinic will be limited to the first 80 boys and girls who sign up.
A 3-on-3 basketball tournament is also scheduled as is a dribbling exhibition by Kevin Lowry, a private basketball trainer. Trophies will be awarded, and the event will feature music, food and beverages.
The first 200 students at the event will each receive a backpack with school supplies. For more information about the "Back to School Fest," contact the Shelton Jones Foundation at 631-703-6136.
