The North Hempstead Town Board on Tuesday night scheduled an Aug. 23 continuance of a hearing on a proposed zoning change in Manhasset.
The vacant site is south of retail property fronting Northern Boulevard and off The Gate road in Strathmore Village. Homes abut the property to the south and west.
The tenant, Gate Park Llc, wants the zoning changed from residential to parking to accommodate customers going to the retail building, which houses a Daffy’s and an Apple store.
During a July 19 hearing, many area residents criticized the zoning request, saying it would encroach on residential homes, add traffic in a congested area and hurt property values.
That hearing had been scheduled to resume at the board meeting Tuesday night.
Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman said at the meeting that the lawyer for Gate Park said his client was unsure whether to proceed with the application.
Paul Bloom, the lawyer who represented Gate Park at the first public hearing, did not return a call for comment.
The board voted to continue the hearing until Aug. 23 to give Gate Park time to make a decision about the rezoning application.
