N. Hempstead OKs New Cassel zoning changes

The North Hempstead Town Board has approved zoning changes along the east end of Prospect Street in New Cassel, removing a requirement for 25-foot front yard setbacks for multifamily homes.

The change, approved at the board’s Tuesday night meeting, is consistent with zoning along the rest of the street, Planning Commissioner Michael Levine said.

As units are proposed for the site, they will undergo site plan review, a process that could require site-specific setbacks, he said.

The area is part of the New Cassel Urban Renewal district, which is undergoing a $60-million revitalization.
