The Town of North Hempstead, which has been contemplating how to make its building department easier for constituents to deal with, is holding a daylong conference on the issue on April 30.
Residents and industry professionals are invited to review policies and procedures and to assess changes already implemented.
Supervisor Jon Kaiman said the town has hired additional plan examiners, building inspectors and clerical staff and plans to add more staff.
“I invite you to join us in developing a more user-friendly process. This is a terrific opportunity for your voice to be heard and at the same time to gain a better understanding of the Buildings Department,” Kaiman said in a note to residents.
Town officials say they hope to “streamline the department” and uphold safety and zoning standards while allowing residents and businesses to go through application processes more efficiently.
The conference includes panel discussions on code changes, development, the town’s Board of Zoning and Appeals, and enforcement and compliance, among other things.
The conference will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the clubhouse at Harbor Links, 1 Fairway Dr., Port Washington.
