The Nassau County Rent Guidelines Board has approved relatively small increases for rent-stabilized apartments.
The local board voted, 5-2, Tuesday night for increases of 1 percent and 1.5 percent, respectively, for one- and two-year lease renewals, beginning Oct. 1.
Last year, the increases were 1.75 and 2.75 percent, respectively.
The guidelines affect about 13,000 rent-stabilized apartments covered by the state’s Emergency Tenant Protection Act in 22 Nassau municipalities, including the villages of Hempstead, Rockville Centre, Cedarhurst, Valley Stream, Great Neck, Port Washington and Mineola, and the cities of Glen Cove and Long Beach.
Hempstead has the most apartments, about 4,000.
No Suffolk municipality ever opted into the program.
A week earlier, county legislators Denise Ford (R-Long Beach) and Robert Troiano (D-Westbury) had suggested rollbacks on rents. That was voted down Tuesday night, 5-2.
