Shortly before 6 p.m., the National Weather Service released a tornado watch for parts of the tri-state area, including Nassau County. The alert remains in effect until 1 a.m. Saturday.
The watch comes on the heels of a muggy day that includes scattered showers across Long Island. The high in Melville reached 81 degrees, just below the average high of 82.
Additionally, the National Weather Service released a hazardous weather outlook for Long Island, with a slight chance of severe thunderstorms in the region.
Looking ahead to the weekend, highs are expected to be in the lower-to-mid 90s. An air quality alert is in effect Saturday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. for all of Long Island. According to the alert, individuals should limit strenuous outdoor activity due to high pollution levels.
