Nassau gets $10G for summer program

Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano and officials of Friendly’s and J&B Restaurant Partners have announced that the company has given $10,000 to help sponsor the county’s summer recreation program for children ages 5 to 12.

J&B Restaurant Partners operates restaurants including Friendly’s and the concessions at Jones Beach.

The announcement was made Friday at the Friendly’s on Hempstead Turnpike. County and company officials were present along with four of the 10 underprivileged whom the donation will enable to take part in the program.

“In harsh economic times, it is encouraging when we see businesses thriving, employing our residents and contributing to the communities in which they serve,” Mangano said.

The sponsorship is part of the company’s Random Acts of Friendlyness campaign celebrating 40 years on Long Island.

The Wantagh Park program is already filled. The other parks participating are Cantiague in Hicksville, Eisenhower in East Meadow and Nickerson Beach in Lido.
