Nassau hosts event for veterans

Nassau military veterans can receive a diverse array of services on July 25, including breakfast and lunch, at the American Legion Post at 160 Marvin Ave. in Hempstead Village.

Nassau’s Veterans Service Agency is sponsoring the Stand Down, a term used during the Vietnam War for a base camp where soldiers returning from battle could relax, recover and recharge.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., veterans who bring proof of military service can receive assistance in securing benefits, get job counseling and seek legal advice.

Donated clothing will be available as well as showers, haircuts, medical screening and enrollment in the Veterans Administration health care system, according the County Executive Edward Mangano.
