Republican County Executive Edward P. Mangano and County Comptroller George Maragos will host Nassau’s first-ever Portugal Day celebration at 6 p.m. today and will honor Republican state Sen. Jack M. Martins as “Nassau County Portuguese-American of the Year.”
The event, which is open to the public, will be at the County Executive and Legislative Building at 1550 Franklin Ave.
Mangano also will honor a number of Portuguese-American organizations for their contributions to their communities. The celebration will feature live music and traditional Portuguese dancing. Light refreshments will be served.
“This special event will celebrate the many achievements of the Portuguese-American community not only here in Nassau County, but across the United States,” Mangano said.
