Nassau to host student science fair

Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano has announced that Nassau will host the First Annual Science and Engineering Fair, open to all middle school and high school students in the county, on May 18 at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in East Garden City.

“Long Island has many opportunities for young people because our economic development team is attracting more and more high tech and science focused companies to Nassau,” Mangano said in a statement. “Nassau County is helping our young people understand the importance of science and technology by encouraging their work on science and engineering projects.”

He added that this event will be the first such countywide fair in the state. The Center for Science Teaching and Learning, a nonprofit organization in Rockville Centre, is serving as the program manager.

The competition will be divided into categories and winners will receive monetary rewards in each category and as overall winners. Several sponsors are helping, including Long Island Forum for Technology and WAC Lighting. For more information call the Center for Science Teaching and Learning at 516-764-0045.
