Nassau to step up 4th of July patrols

Nassau County police will step up the number of patrols this holiday weekend to aggressively target drunk drivers thanks to a state grant.

The increase, thanks to a state “Stop DWI” grant, comes in addition to the typical swell in patrol levels seen every Independence Day holiday weekend, according to Police Commissioner Lawrence Mulvey.

During this past Memorial Day weekend, Nassau and Suffolk police made a total of 112 DWI arrests, including 68 in Nassau alone.
