New Manorhaven trustee quits after 23 days

A newly elected trustee in Manorhaven abruptly resigned on Wednesday after 23 days in office.

Noelle Joy Smith, who won election on the same platform as newly elected Village Mayor Giovanna Giunta and trustee Mark Lazarovic, resigned on Wednesday, village attorney Charles Casolaro said. Smith was sworn in on July 2.

Casolaro said Smith did not specify a reason in her resignation letter. “I felt I had to resign for personal reasons,” Smith said in an interview after the meeting. “I wish the mayor and board the best.”

At Thursday night’s regular board meeting, Giunta appointed Dorit Zeevi-Farrington, 51, to the position vacated by Smith. Zeevi-Farrington, a business owner, has not previously held office.

Smith was not immediately available for comment.

Also at Thursday night’s meeting, the board voted unanimously to retain an outside law firm to sue cell-tower company AG Towers and its subsidiaries. Casolaro would not be specific about the village’s causes of action, but said at the meeting that “we feel we have very good legal merits to proceed, and I think the residents will be quite surprised.”
