The Plainedge School District has chosen an assistant superintendent from Roslyn, with 16 years of public school experience, as its new leader.
Edward A. Salina Jr., 46, of Jericho will start as Plainedge superintendent July 1, to oversee a district with a proposed 2011-12 budget of $80 million. In Roslyn, he had also previously served as a principal and as information systems and administrative services director.
Salina, whose annual base salary will be $238,500, began his career as a New York City math teacher and went on to become a principal in Shoreham-Wading River and district administrator in Lindenhurst before joining the Roslyn schools in 2001.
With an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering, Salina has designed educational computer systems and networks in his previous districts, officials said in a statement.
He completed his doctoral work at Teachers College at Columbia University, and has served as an adjunct professor at the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University.
