Former New England Patriot Jarvis Green, who played on the 2005 Super Bowl championship team, will be making an appearance next weekend at the 2011 Pet Adoptathon at North Shore Animal League in Port Washington.

The event will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday and run for 36 consecutive hours. More than 700 puppies, kittens, cats and dogs will be up for adoption.

At noon Sunday, Green, a defensive end for the Patriots until 2009 who now is signed with the Houston Texans, will lead an hour-long fitness program for kids. The program promotes healthy lifestyles for children and teenagers, with exercises related to or inspired by dog behavior.

The Port Washington organization is the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption league. To date, nearly 1 million animals have been adopted through the group. For more information on the Adoptathon, call 516-883-7575.
