Small-space gardening is perfect for older folks who like to putter around the yard but don't want an extended patch to care for.

The Town of Babylon and Copiague Chamber of Commerce are once again offering free organic gardening classes.

The classes, part of the Town of Babylon Farmers Market Project, start Monday night from 7-9. Additional classes will be July 9 and July 16. The classes are being held in Fellowship Hall in Christ Covenant Church, 67 Scudder Ave. in Copiague.

The classes will address topics such as soil preparation, crop selection, scheduling and rotation, as well as plant spacing, inter-planting and companion planting. Also covered will be growing from seeds and starter plants, growing in pots and succession planting.

The town’s growers market will open for summer July 7. The market will be open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon in the parking lot at Great Neck Road and Oak Street in Copiague.
