Oyster Bay seeks Blueway Trail ideas

The Town of Oyster Bay is asking residents to share their ideas for the design of a new Blueway Trail planned for the North Shore coastline.

Earlier this year, the town and its partners in the project, the Friends of the Bay environmental group and the Hempstead Harbor Protection Committee, received a $76,250 matching grant for planning the trail that will begin in Hempstead Harbor, travel along Long Island Sound, and proceed through Oyster Bay and Cold Spring harbors. Working with its partners and a consulting firm, the town will create a map and signs to show launching areas and other points of interest to paddlers and other boaters.

Residents are invited to help in the process by taking a survey by Dec. 30 at www.surveymonkey.com/s/OysterBayBluewayTrail.

The Oyster Bay trail will link up with trails created by the towns of North Hempstead and Huntington.
