A public hearing on a proposed industrial building in Port Washington is expected to draw a crowd of residents in opposition at Thursday night’s North Hempstead Town Board meeting.
The plan calls for rezoning about five acres of town-owned land on West Shore Road from residential to industrial for the headquarters of Dejana Industries, which proposes to build a terminal headquarters at the site and a roughly 56,000-square-foot building to house its offices, manufacturing, maintenance and other operations.
Dejana Industries provides garbage removal, snow removal, street sweeping and related services.
Rob Calica, an attorney and president of the Harbor View at Port Washington Homeowners Association, said the project is inappropriate for the parcel, which sits between residences and Hempstead Harbor. He and other residents intend to oppose the plan at to Thursday night’s meeting.
