Nassau County Legis. Kevan Abrahams (D-Freeport) will sponsor two community events in Roosevelt this month.

Abrahams will host a “Know Your Rights” community discussion to educate and inform residents on ways to interact with law enforcement, and answer their questions and address concerns. The event will be held Tuesday at the Roosevelt Public Library’s theater room, 27 W. Fulton Ave., from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Speakers expected at the forum include Dennis Jones, a retired detective; Corey Pegues, president of the Long Island chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement; Jason Starr, Nassau County chapter director of the New York Civil Liberties Union; John Nedd, a detective of the Nassau County Police Department; and Darrin Green, a corrections officer with the Nassau County Sheriff’s Department.

There will also be an End of Summer Fiesta block party on Saturday, Aug. 31 from noon to 4 p.m. on 90 Pleasant Ave. in Roosevelt. The event will feature free food, music and games.
