In the face of widespread public criticism, LIPA officials on Wednesday were sticking to their prior estimate that 90 percent of the 523,000 cumulative outages since Sunday would be restored by Friday night. It's unclear how long it will take to restore the final 10 percent, or 52,000 customers, who could see power out through the Labor Day weekend and into next week, LIPA said.
