It’s almost time to begin our weeklong adventure in the community of Port Washington in our next installment of the Town Focus series.

Beginning Sunday, I will be spending each day in “Port” getting to know the interesting people and places that make up this charming waterfront community.

I’ve already learned some fascinating tidbits about Port Washington’s past. Did you know many celebrities were drawn to the community in the early 1900s to watch speed boat races in Manhasset Bay and try their luck at the Sands Point Casino?

I am eager to discover more of Port’s history and tell the stories of the community’s current residents, local officials and business owners. Please reach out to me on Twitter using #townfocus, email tara.conry@newsday.com or stop me if you spot me walking around the neighborhood if you’d like to share a story..

Also, send me your suggestions of your favorite places to visit in Port Washington. Tell me what activities I should try. I’m sure I will work up an appetite during all this sightseeing, so I’d appreciate some restaurant recommendations, too.

Whether you’re a native of Port Washington or a newbie, a visitor or an outside admirer, I bet you have your own questions about Port. Send them my way and I will track down the answers for you.

Lastly, don’t forget to follow @tarakconry to join in my travels in Port Washington and beyond.
