The Village of Westbury has reached an agreement with the Westbury Business Improvement District in which the village will take over security efforts on Post Avenue, according to the Westbury Times.
The deal, signed Oct. 4, came after the district’s security contract with a private company came up for renewal. The idea was suggested by Village Mayor Peter Cavallaro, according to the Times.
Cavallaro told the Times that such a contract is essential for the traffic and volume expected from the Westbury Theatre once its redevelopment is complete.
As part of the agreement, the BID will receive a uniformed presence at designated hours. Plus, security personnel will have the authority to issue summonses and conduct investigations, something private companies cannot do.
The district will pay Westbury for the service using BID membership dues, executive eirector Dawn Blinn told the Times.
