The high unemployment rate among post-9/11 veterans will be the topic of discussion at the Veterans Resource Fair Friday at Farmingdale State College.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the event — which will feature local businesses, state and local agencies and networking opportunities — will end at 1:45 p.m.
Farmingdale State College President W. Hubert Keen, co-host Rep. Steve Israel (D-Dix Hills) and Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone will speak.
There are 133 veterans and 64 exhibitors registered, said John Narciso, program coordinator for the New York State Veterans Business Outreach Center, and Kathryn Coley, director of communications at Farmingdale State College.
“Exhibitors are coming to hopefully help the veterans to find employment or start their own business and become more employable,” Narciso said. “We are hoping to find jobs for as many of the veterans that show up or make them aware of the resources and opportunities that are out there.”
Samantha Slater, communications director for Israel, said the unemployment rate for post-9/11 veterans is 10 percent.
