Additional information:

The South Huntington Library’s $5,802,955 budget passed 417 to 131 on Tuesday. The budget is 2.59 percent higher than the current budget and carries a 2.71 percent increase in the library tax bill.

Incumbent trustee Stuart Horowitz defeated challenger Steve Haddock, 293 to 238, for a seat with a 5-year term that starts on July 1.

The Northport-East Northport Public Library’s budget passed handily on Tuesday, 598 to 121.

Voters were presented with a $9.32-million budget, a 1.98 percent increase over last year’s budget.

The budget has a 2.26 percent tax increase, bringing the tax rate to $11.01 per $100 in assessed value. A home assessed at $4,000 will see an increase of $9.60 in library taxes.

“We were very realistic and as cost-conscious as we could be,” said library director Eileen Minogue.

While retirement costs rose by 63 percent, the library has been keeping other costs down by not filling vacant positions or hiring entry-level employees to replace more experienced ones when they retire, Minogue said.

In the library trustee race, Margaret Hartough defeated Robert Runyan, 466 to 179.
