When Kings Park High School’s junior varsity baseball team plays Comsewogue today, the players will find new dugouts and fences at their home field.
Starting last fall, volunteers installed sod and a new sprinkler system at the ballfield, on the western end of the school property on Route 25A. Last year, the field was pockmarked with rocks and weeds.
Leaders of Kings Park Youth, a nonprofit sports club, led the effort to repair the field because the school district lacked funds for improvements.
The work was funded by donations from Kings Park Youth, and area businesses provided irrigation, sod and other material. Much of the construction was done by volunteers.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is to be held at 3:45 p.m. before the Kings Park-Comsewogue game.
