An agreement that requires Riverhead Town to pay Suffolk County for the anticipated overtime costs involved for the dredging of five waterways in the town has been approved by the town board, clearing the way for the work to be done later this year.

The work will be done in Meetinghouse Creek in Aquebogue, Cases Creek, Hawks Creek and East Creek in Jamesport and Miamogue Lagoon in South Jamesport.

Under the agreement, the work will be done by a Suffolk County dredge crew, and the county will pay the basic costs for the project, which will be done by a county-owned dredge and crew. But, Riverhead Town has agreed to cover all overtime, up to $11,317.

The town board agreed to the overtime payment at its regular meeting earlier this week. Officials said there is no way of telling whether any actual overtime payments will have to be made, because weather problems and other factors can change the time it takes to dredge navigation channels.
