Run, walk-a-thon, health fair in Hempstead Village

The Sixth Annual Healthy Hempstead 5K Run & Walk-a-Thon and Health Fair will take place, rain or shine, on Saturday.

The event sponsored by Hempstead Village is set to begin at 9 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. The 5-kilometer run and/or walk will begin in Kennedy Park at 335 Greenwich St.

“We expect a record turnout and anticipate that the race will be a landmark event for Hempstead and Nassau County,” Mayor Wayne J. Hall Sr. said in a statement. “The event seeks to promote healthy living and anti-obesity efforts.”

In conjunction with the race, the health fair will feature food, games, activities and more. The fair will also be held in the park.

To register for the race, pick up a preregistration form in the mayor's office and fax completed forms to 516-485-1667 by tomorrow. The preregistration fee is $20 for adults and $10 for children in grades K-12.

Participants can also register on-site from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. the day of the race for $25. All proceeds will go to the Hempstead High School Scholarship Fund.
