Sayville High School is bringing the community together to break bread for a good cause Friday night.
The high school’s art department will sponsor “Empty Bowls,” a benefit dinner for the Greater Sayville Food Pantry, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.
Art students and faculty designed more than 250 handmade bowls, which will be given to attendees at the dinner. Admission is $10 and both faculty and local restaurants will provide soup, salad and bread. Attendees get to keep their bowls.
“The kids get really excited about getting to design the bowls,” high school art teacher John Verschure said. “It’s a nice thing to do.”
The department has sponsored the event three times in the past, hosting up to 200 people. All of the money raised goes directly to the food pantry.
The high school is at 20 Brook St., West Sayville.
