State Sen. Charles J. Fuschillo Jr. (R-Merrick) will sponsor two cancer screening events this month in Merrick and Wantagh.

A mammography van, operated by NuHealth/Nassau Health Care Corporation, will be at the Merrick Library, 2279 Merrick Ave., on Thursday from 8:45 a.m. to noon.

The program is open to Nassau County women ages 40 and older. On-site nurses and technicians will provide mammograms, a clinical breast exam and self-examination instructions.

Women covered by insurance, Medicaid or Medicare will have their carrier billed, and must bring their information card and a prescription from their doctor to the screening. Patients will be responsible for any co-pays charged by their carrier. Women 40 and older without health insurance will not pay any out-of-pocket costs.

Patients will be required to show ID at the time of the mammogram. If a patient has had mammograms through Nassau Health Care Corp., they must bring their previous films to their appointment. Appointments are necessary.

Fuschillo will also be partnering with the Colette Coyne Melanoma Awareness Campaign in sponsoring a free skin cancer screening program on Aug. 23, from noon to 3:30 p.m. at the Wantagh Park Pool, 1 King Rd., in Wantagh.

Skin cancer screenings will be conducted by trained dermatologists. No appointments are required.

For more information, call Fuschillo’s office at 516-882-0630.
