The names of 54 Smithtown residents killed in the 9/11  attacks on the World Trade Center will be read during a ceremony  Friday evening, said Barbara Franco, executive director of the Greater Smithtown Chamber of Commerce, which is organizing the event.

The ceremony will start at 7 p.m. in a  9/11 memorial on the north side of Main Street between Landing and Lawrence avenues.

The memorial site includes plaques inscribed with victims’ names, pieces of steel from the World Trade Center and a waterfall.

The ceremony is to include a U.S. Marine Corps color guard, prayers led by local clergy and patriotic songs performed by John Zollo, a Smithtown attorney, according to a program of the event. Town Supervisor Patrick Vecchio is scheduled to speak.
