From Mozart to “Mission: Impossible,” the Smithtown Community Band plans to play a wide variety of music during its summer concert series.
The 60-piece band, marking its 25th year, will play tunes such as Duke Ellington’s “Caravan” and a musical tribute to the armed forces during four outdoor shows at Frank Brush Barn, on Middle Country Road in the Village of the Branch. The program will be different each week, said band director William Link.
“We try to do various things: marches, a little jazz, a little rock, show tunes, everything we possibly can, and try to please every possible crowd,” Link said.
This season’s repertoire includes Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro” and themes from television series such as “Mission: Impossible” and “Get Smart,” Link said.
Vocalist Georgeanna Piazza will join the band on songs such as George and Ira Gershwin’s “’Wonderful,” and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Climb Every Mountain” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” said Link, a Comsewogue school district music teacher.
Concerts are scheduled for 8 p.m. on July 5, 12, 19 and 26. All shows are free.
