The Louis Feil Charitable Lead Annuity Trust has made a $3-million gift to South Nassau Communities Hospital.
The donation from Rockville Centre resident Jeffrey J. Feil and his family will be used to support the expansion of the hospital’s Cancer Center in Valley Stream. This is the biggest philanthropic gift that the Oceanside-based hospital has ever received, hospital officials said.
“By fulfilling its mission to provide high-quality, standard-setting health care services that match the needs of the communities and the medically underserved,” Feil said in a statement, “South Nassau makes an indelible contribution to the exceptional quality of life enjoyed by residents of the South Shore of Nassau County.”
Feil is the chief executive of the Feil Organization, a real estate development and management firm based in Manhattan. In memory of his parents, South Nassau is renaming its cancer center the Gertrude & Louis Feil Cancer Center.
In 2009, the cancer center treated 1,326 patients, including 1,047 newly diagnosed patients and 279 with recurrent cancer or cancer in progression. The center, which is located at 1 South Central Ave. in Valley Stream, is the hub of South Nassau’s Comprehensive Cancer Program.
