Southampton Writers Conference at hand

Some of the nation’s most prominent writers and poets will be reading from their own works Friday to mark the fifth anniversary edition of The Southampton Review, a literary journal published twice a year at the Southampton College campus of the State University at Stony Brook.

The journal was founded by author Robert Reeves, who is directing this year’s 36th annual Southampton Writers Conference. Sessions on poetry, novels, memoirs and nonfiction among other genres begin Wednesday.

Among the writers who will be on the Avram Theater stage Friday are Roger Rosenblatt, whose essays have won Peabody, Emmy and George Polk awards; Melissa Bank, who wrote the best-selling “The Girls’ Guide to Hunting and Fishing;” Mark Doty, who won the National Book Award in 2008 for his book of poetry, “Fire to Fire,” and former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins.

Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10.
