Southold fundraiser for girl with brain disease

A fundraiser will be held Saturday in Southold for a 6-month-old girl with an incurable disease.

Olivia Mae Menard, daughter of Mattituck-Cutchogue High School graduates Chad Menard and Jennifer Smith Menard, has Zellweger syndrome, a disease that damages brain tissue, as well as other associated disorders.

According to the National Institute for Neurological Disorders, most infants with the disease die before the age of 6 months due to respiratory problems, internal bleeding and liver failure. There is no cure for the genetic disease.

The Menards now live in North Carolina, but both sets of grandparents live in the Mattituck-Cutchogue area.

The affair begins at 7 p.m. at the Wharf House at Founders Landing in Southold. Checks made out the Menards can be sent to Karen Volinski, 805 Theresa Dr., Mattituck, NY 11952. Call Christina Smith at 631-734-8304 for more information.
