Oyster Bay is gearing up to beautify the hamlet for spring.
On Monday the Oyster Bay/East Norwich Chamber of Commerce is holding its Spring Splendor fundraiser. The chamber hopes to attract sponsorship for each of the 70 potted plants it intends to place throughout the hamlet, as well as the hanging plants seen on historic light posts.
“It's all about beautification,” said Michelle Browner, the chamber president. “We are looking to beautify the street scape.”
Browner said the chamber has been placing the plants throughout the hamlet for the past five years, but last year its efforts expanded so the Pine Hollow Road area would also be included.
The Spring Splendor, from 7-9:30 p.m. at the Dodds & Eder showroom, 221 South St., will feature wine and hors d'oeuvres, and a dozen area restaurants will offer tastings. The name of each plant’s sponsor will be engraved onto a plaque and placed on the pot.
