The Nassau County Police Department’s Third Precinct today is hosting its fifth annual St. Baldrick’s Event for children with cancer.

This year’s event, from 4 to 7 p.m., will take place at Marcus Christ Hall at New Hyde Park Road and Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park.

The event raises money through head shavings. Last year, more than $35,000 was raised. Community participation and support, as well as simple donations, have contributed to the success of the events.

There will be raffle prizes, refreshments and live entertainment.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity that, event organizer Nick Mosesso said, funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.
