LIPA Trustees: The board of trustees of the Long Island Power Authority will hold a special meeting, open to the public, today at 10 a.m. at the Omni Conference Center (333 Earle Ovington Blvd., Uniondale). Kings Park

Yo-Yo Record: The anti-drug group Kings Park in the kNOw will try to break the world yo-yo record as part of a fundraiser. The event, which the group hopes will draw 2,500 yo-yoers, will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Kings Park High School (200 Rte. 25A). Check Nicholas Spangler’s updates at


Busing Vote: Smithtown School District residents will vote Monday on a referendum to overturn a May vote and restore last year's transportation policy, which allowed all but 700 of the district's 11,467 students to take the bus  to school. The previous referendum approved expanded distances, taking away busing from 1,500 students.
